Comprehensive Exam

A comprehensive oral exam is performed on all new patients to the practice. This includes an inspection of the teeth, the gums, the tongue, the lips, the throat, the floor of the mouth , the lymph nodes of the neck and the jaw joints. We also perform regular oral cancer screenings. A comprehensive set of X-rays are also taken. X-rays are necessary to diagnose the presence of disease . We use digital x-ray equipment to give us the quality x-rays we need while reducing the exposure of radiation to the least possible amount.

The American Dental Association (ADA) recommends the following:

  • Brush your teeth twice a day with an ADA-accepted fluoride toothpaste.
  • Replace your toothbrush every three or four months, or sooner if the bristles are frayed.
  • A worn toothbrush won’t do a good job of cleaning your teeth.
  • Clean between teeth daily with floss or an interdental cleaner.
  • Eat a balanced diet and limit snacks between meals.
  • Visit your dentist twice a year for professional cleanings and oral exam.
